Louis Latour Régnié La Roche 2023 0.375L Beaujolais, France
Louis Latour Régnié La Roche 2023 0.375L is a half-bottle of red Beaujolais made from Gamay from Régnié, the 10th cru of Beaujolais. This wine combines the juicy charm of Gamay with more depth than you’d expect from a simple Beaujolais, thanks to 30-year-old vines on pink schist-like granite. The half-bottle is ideal when one or two people want to drink a fruity, fresh yet serious cru Beaujolais with charcuterie, grilled meats, or cheese.
Vineyards and region
Régnié is located in Beaujolais and shares its granite-rich subsoil and microclimate with well-known neighboring villages such as Morgon and Brouilly.
• Location / Origin: Régnié was recognized as the 10th cru of Beaujolais in 1988. The appellation lies between Morgon to the north and Brouilly to the south, clearly placing this wine in the more serious cru area of Beaujolais.
• Appellation: What is Régnié? Régnié is a Cru du Beaujolais, an appellation for red Gamay wines with more character, fruit depth, and structure than the broader Beaujolais appellations.
• Soil: The vines are planted on pink schist-like granite. This stony soil warms up well, drains water, and helps Gamay develop juicy fruit, fresh tension, and a slightly spicy undertone.
• Vineyard & Harvest: The vines average 30 years old, and yields are around 45 hl per hectare. The grapes are harvested by hand, allowing the fruit to be carefully processed.
Grape composition
This red Beaujolais is made entirely from Gamay.
• Gamay – Régnié: Gamay gives this wine its fragrant red fruit, supple structure, and lively freshness. In Régnié, due to the granite-rich soil and cru character, the grape gains extra length, grip, and fruit concentration.
Vinification and aging
The vinification is classic and focused on fruit, freshness, and a pure expression of Gamay.
• Fermentation: The wine ferments traditionally in open vats. This method helps extract aroma, color, and soft tannins from the grapes while preserving Gamay's juicy character.
• Aging: The wine ages for 8–10 months in stainless steel tanks. This ensures that the strawberry, blackcurrant, redcurrant, and fresh fruit expression remain clear, without oak influence.
• Aging potential: This Régnié has an aging potential of 2–3 years. This suits its fruity, fresh style, where suppleness and immediate drinkability are key.
Tasting notes and serving suggestions
In the glass, Louis Latour Régnié La Roche 2023 has a garnet red color. The nose opens with strawberry and sous-bois, followed by a broad, fresh taste with blackcurrant and redcurrant. The finish has good length and remains juicy, precise, and lively.
• Serving temperature: Serve this Régnié at 13–15 °C, so that the red fruit, fresh acidity, and soft tannins come together beautifully.
• Dishes: Delicious with grilled meats, charcuterie, cheese, white meat dishes, and light appetizers.
