The Emilia-Romagna region where Nespolino has established itself is primarily known for its Lambrusco production, but with this pleasant glass of red wine, producer Poderi dal Nespoli proves that this region is also very suitable for other wine production. This red wine is a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot. The former can still have a somewhat unpleasant acidity, but pairing it with Merlot gives the wine a well-rounded, enjoyable finish.

The highest award for Nespolino

The founding of this winery goes back almost a century. In 1929, in a part of Romagna between the Apennines and the sea, Attilio Ravaioli planted the rows of vines on the first vineyard he purchased in the village of Nespoli. Since then, the vineyard has grown to 110 hectares. They specialize in small productions of Sangiovese, but have recently also been reviving some forgotten grape varieties, such as Famoso and Bombino Bianco. Their efforts have not gone unnoticed. In 2006, Poderi dal Nespoli received "Tre Bicchieri," the highest award from the Italian wine magazine Gambero Rosso. The two grape varieties that make up this wine come from Nespoli, a terroir located 177 meters above sea level. Vinification is traditional, in stainless steel tanks. Bottling is quick to preserve all the wine's fruitiness. This is a wine to drink young.

The best of both worlds

Dry, harmonious, and balanced in structure. This pleasant wine has an intense ruby red color and, thanks in part to its partial aging in barriques, imparts a soft palate. The main fruit aromas are cherry and violet, typical of Sangiovese, along with spice and chocolate notes from the Merlot. Dry and harmonious, it's a well-balanced wine. It's perfect for pasta, flavorful ravioli, red meat, and aged cheeses.
