This is often a favorite dessert wine for me. Not too expensive, sufficiently sweet, something unique (surprises people), and pairs well with many different desserts. Also, it's not like you're drinking pure syrup.

This dessert wine is the result of a hobby by two Americans who were tired of their hectic jobs. Andrew and Laurel Quady founded their winery in Southern California in 1975. They wanted a new challenge in their lives. They started with a port-like red wine made from the indigenous Zinfandel grape. With this, they gained a reputation among wine lovers worldwide. Quady continued to develop and invest in the vineyards. This investment paid off. In 1983, Elysium, made from Black Muscat, was developed. With this dessert wine, the winery's reputation was definitively established in the wine world.

The Black Muscat in Elysium

Black Muscat is a relative of the Muscat grape. These grapes produce unique, port-like dessert wines worldwide. Currently, there are over 200 different varieties of Muscat grapes, but only a few enjoy significant popularity. These include Moscatel de Setubal, Muscat de Rivesaltes, and Black Muscat. The latter is the basis for Elysium Black Muscat 0.375CL, which thrives in Californian vineyards. These vineyards are located somewhat inland, where the sun shines brightly and temperatures remain high. These are ideal conditions for this grape, which is reflected in the quality of Elysium Black Muscat.

Elysium Black Muscat has been aged in oak for three months, giving it its rich aroma and flavor. The generous palate is heavenly. Fresh sweetness, generous red fruit, and delicate acidity.
