Food Pairing

Uruguayaanse barbecue Biefstuk
Tannat has recently become Uruguay's unofficial grape, pairing so well with "asado Uruguayo," or Uruguayan barbecue. This Tannat is produced in vineyards that benefit from the cool breezes of the Atlantic Ocean and the Rio de la Plata, allowing it to ripen perfectly and develop delicious aromas.

Terroir wines from Juan Carrau

Juan Carrau came to South America from Spain, and his name is synonymous with crafting top-quality wines. He has a passion for producing fine wines, and with a tradition stretching back more than 10 generations, it's also one of the oldest family-owned wineries. Founded in 1930, Bodega Carrau was one of the pioneers of fine winemaking. They use traditional grape varieties from southwestern France, such as Tannat, Malbec, and Petit Manseng. Today, Javier Carrau heads the winery and continues to produce a fantastic range of single-varietal wines, aiming to represent Uruguay's unique terroir. Ocean breezes temper the heat during the summer months, and the region is frost-free in the winter. The grapes ripen slowly due to the temperature differences between day and night, allowing them to develop their delicious aromas.

Manual harvest for Tannat de Reserva

The Tannat grapes are harvested exclusively by hand and transported to the winery in 16-kilo crates. They are deliberately placed in large crates to prevent crushing during transport. A rigorous selection process then follows, followed by a short maceration period of two days at low temperatures. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at 22 degrees Celsius. The wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels. Juan Carrau's red wine has a beautiful ruby-red color with violet reflections. Aromas of red fruit, plums, quinces, and delicious spices are evident. It is complex with notes of tobacco and chocolate, thanks to the oak barrels. A perfect wine for a barbecue.
