But that didn't happen overnight, as the winery has invested heavily in recent years, including a modern winery and vineyard renovations. The oldest vineyards in the heart of the Puglia wine region are located in Manduria. This is where the grapes for this wine originate, and the region is considered the "Grand Cru" of Apulia. And that's absolutely true; wines have been grown on these soils for hundreds of years, and you can taste that in this red Callesella Primitivo di Manduria.

In the heart of Manduria lie the old vineyards for this red wine. The winemaker at Callesella is proud of these; these are the fullest and most beautiful vines in southern Italy. The climate is perfect, with abundant sunshine and cool ocean breezes. This allows the bunches to receive both sunshine and coolness, allowing for a slow and balanced aging process. The strong soil structure gives the harvest its fullness, making this red wine unique. What a feast it is, and that begins the moment we open the bottle. We immediately smell a powerful aroma of ripe black fruit, accompanied by light spices and a touch of black pepper. In the glass, it emanates a deep, dark red color with a purple rim. The beautiful, thick structure yields ripe aromas of cherry jam, cedar, plums, licorice, and nutmeg. The aroma is truly overwhelming, but it doesn't stop there; on the palate, it delivers an explosion of flavors. The tongue is pampered by black fruit, light spices, and a touch of vanilla. Against the cheeks, there's room for currants, cedar, and licorice. And the finish leaves a velvety aftertaste.
