Bodegas Vetus Alba de Vetus Albariño 2025
With Alba de Vetus, the winery shifts its focus from Toro and Rueda to the Atlantic O Rosal in Rías Baixas. This vintage combines vibrant tension with a generous mouthfeel and has sufficient gastronomic power for fish, shellfish, and fresh vegetable dishes.
Vineyards and region
The selected plots are located around O Rosal, in the southernmost coastal part of the D.O. Rías Baixas.
- Location / Origin: O Rosal stretches along the Miño, where the river flows into the Atlantic Ocean and forms the border with Portugal. The plots used are located in the vicinity of Tomiño, within this clearly maritime part of Galicia.
- Altitude: The vineyards are located between 50 and 150 m above sea level. Due to the low altitude, the influence of the ocean and the cooling air currents remain emphatically present.
- Soil: O Rosal is characterized by a granite subsoil with alluvial top layers of, among other things, silt, sand, clay, and gravel. These soils combine drainage with sufficient moisture availability in the rainy climate.
- Climate & Influences: The Atlantic climate brings moderate temperatures and sufficient rainfall, while approximately 2200 hours of sunshine per year allow the grapes to ripen fully while maintaining their natural acidity.
- Vineyard Management: The selected plots were planted around 2000 and are cultivated according to integrated viticulture principles, with traditional soil cultivation and attention to a balanced development of the vines.
Vinification and aging
The cellar technique is entirely focused on a clear fruit expression and a lively structure.
- Harvest & Selection: The grapes are harvested manually from a selection of different plots around O Rosal. This allows the fruit to be assessed individually for ripeness and quality before being processed.
- Fermentation: Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. This protects the pure aromas of white fruit and herbs and accentuates the natural freshness of the wine.
- Aging: The maturation remains completely free of wood, allowing the juicy fruit, acidity, and subtle balsamic nuances to emerge clearly.
- Alcohol Percentage: With 13% alcohol, the 2025 vintage has sufficient volume for a generous start, while the Atlantic acidity keeps the whole energetic and precise.
Grape composition
The wine is entirely built around the main white grape of Rías Baixas.
- 100% Albariño – O Rosal: Albariño gives the wine its aromatic intensity, vibrant acidity, and combination of white fruit, spiciness, and subtle minerality. In O Rosal, this grape variety usually gets slightly more roundness and ripeness than in the cooler northern parts of Rías Baixas.
Tasting notes and serving suggestions
Clear straw yellow with greenish reflections. On the nose, spicy aromas and white fruit open, followed by an intense, generous taste with elegant acidity. Balsamic nuances give the long and clean finish extra depth.
- Serving Temperature: Serve this Albariño at 8–10 °C, so that the aromatic intensity can unfold while the wine maintains its lively tension.
- Dishes: Combine it with oysters, mussels, prawns, grilled white fish, sushi, ceviche, or a fresh salad with goat cheese. The acidity beautifully matches salty flavors and light, creamy preparations.
Awards
- 4.0 stars, Vivino: With over 2800+ reviews, this Albariño is widely appreciated for its fresh, aromatic, and gastronomic style.
More information about Bodegas Vetus
Bodegas Vetus was founded in 2003 when the Antón family, known for Artevino Family Wineries, wanted to further develop the potential of Toro. The success of the first wine led to the purchase of their own estate and the opening of a modern cellar in 2008. From that base, new projects followed in the highlands of Rueda and eventually in O Rosal, bringing together 3 clearly different Spanish origins within one family vision.
