Nik Weis Mosel Riesling is a dry "Gutsriesling" from old vines around the estate in Leiwen. This white Mosel wine comes from Riesling vines aged 40–70 years and is spontaneously fermented in stainless steel, which allows the juicy fruit, fresh acidity, and characteristic Mosel character to shine through clearly. This is the accessible entry point into the style of Nik Weis St. Urbans-Hof: lively, precise, dry, and full of energy.
This Riesling comes from the Mosel, one of Germany's classic Riesling regions.
Location / Origin: The grapes largely come from flatter and sloping vineyards around the estate in Leiwen, on the Mosel.
Vineyard history: The oldest vines were planted in the late 1940s and early 1950s by Nicolaus Weis, the founder of the winery.
Soil: Around the estate, above the solid slate bedrock, lies a 2–6 meter thick layer of river deposits consisting of clay, loam, and sand. This combination provides water buffering in dry years and gives the wine its juicy, mineral Mosel signature.
Vineyard & Harvest: The vines are 40–70 years old and trained on trellises, partly with individual vine training. These old vines provide extra concentration and depth to the wine.
Vinification is focused on purity, freshness, and a clear expression of Riesling.
Fermentation: The wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts. This gives the Riesling more individual character and supports the natural tension of the Mosel.
Aging: The wine is matured in stainless steel tanks. This keeps the fresh citrus, yellow apple, and spicy grapefruit clearly present.
Alcohol content: At approximately 12% alcohol, this dry Riesling remains light-footed and energetic, with enough body for a juicy and long finish.
This white Mosel wine is made entirely from Riesling.
100% Riesling – Mosel: Riesling gives this wine its vibrant acidity, yellow apple, citrus, spicy grapefruit, and mineral freshness. In the Mosel, the grape achieves an elegant, juicy style with great drinking pleasure and tension.
