Who doesn't love Spanish wines? The diversity, the temperament, and the sky-high quality. Spanish wines are more popular than ever. Rioja, a wine region in northeastern Spain, plays a key role in Spanish winemaking. Coincidentally, this is the region where Altos de Rioja is based.

The Rioja wines from Spain

Rioja wines have enjoyed great popularity for decades. They are one of those wines that consistently deliver. The red wines, in particular, are eagerly sought after by wine lovers worldwide. Spicy, aromatic, and intense, a Rioja is recognizable from afar. Among the finest Rioja wines in our selection are undoubtedly the Altos R Rioja wines. Their expansive price-quality ratio is particularly striking.

The Spanish wines of Altos de Rioja

The Altos de Rioja winery is located in Elvillar, a tiny village in the heart of the Rioja region. The Rioja region is divided into several subregions. Altos de Rioja is located in the Rioja Alavesa, one of the freshest regions, thanks largely to the Sierra Cantabria, a mountain peak that towers over the region. Because the Rioja Alavesa is much cooler than other regions, the grapevines have much greater growth potential.

The wines of Altos de Rioja

Only one grape dominates the vineyards of Altos de Rioja: Tempranillo. This Spanish pride is widely planted in Spain, yet it's in Rioja that it produces its finest wines. The palate is fruity and spicy; just the right balance. By aging the juice in oak for extended periods, as in Altos R Rioja Reserva, for example, the wine becomes wonderfully full-bodied and robust.

Besides the red wines, the Altos R Rioja vineyards also cultivate white grape varieties. These are Malvasia and Viura, whose fresh climate creates a surprisingly aromatic bouquet. Together, these grapes are blended to create perhaps the finest white wine in Northern Spain: Altos R Rioja Blanco.
