Winemaking is something they know their stuff in Italy. Wine regions like Veneto, Piedmont, Puglia, and Tuscany are, of course, well-known names. However, for the Alturis winery, we have to travel to a lesser-known Italian wine province: Friuli, in the far northeast of the country. This wine region, which also happens to be a border region, has been Alturis' home for three generations. The microclimate here is unique, which has made the planting of less conventional grapes a great success. The Alturis wines from Friuli
The name Alturis wasn't chosen entirely by chance. In the local dialect, it literally means "plot of land above the landscape." The vineyards are also situated somewhat higher, offering breathtaking views from the Alturis vineyards. Beautiful nature as far as the eye can see—that's what Friuli is known for.Alturis's strength lies in its unique microclimate. The wind from the Adriatic coast provides ample refreshment, while the Alps act as a natural barrier to the cold northerly winds. This allows for the cultivation of unique grapes that are completely ineffective in other parts of Italy. Think of a crisp Sauvignon Blanc, a unique Friulano, or the distinctive Pinot Noir.
