Winery Bacalhoa is a collective name; under this brand, you will now find 11 wineries. This is partly due to José Berardo, whose goal is to bring the most beautiful wineries in Portugal together under one flag. From 1998, this gained momentum and the Bacalhoa winery took shape. The name Bacalhoa is named after the beautiful manor on the Setúbal peninsula, which forms the radiant center of Bacalhoa wines: Palácio e Quinta da Bacalhôa. The name Bacalhoa comes from the wife of the former owner of the manor, Dom Jeronimo Manuel. Bacalhoa means Cod in Portuguese; let's just say his wife did not possess the classic beauty of an average Portuguese woman.
