Centuries-old, with modern technology. Bellingham Winery has been constantly evolving since its founding in 1693. It was founded by Dutchman Gerrit Janz van Vuuren and his wife, a French Huguenot. At the end of the 17th century, they were the ones who planted the first 1,000 vines on the Bellingham Estate. The name Bellingham is a corruption of the word Bellingchamp, which roughly means "beautiful fields."

The vineyards in Franschhoek

The Bellingham estate is located in the Franschhoek Valley, a leading wine region in South Africa. French Huguenots settled here over 350 years ago, bringing with them their winemaking expertise, and the rest is history. The name Franschhoek is therefore no coincidence. Bellingham's location is exceptionally good. The vineyards lie at the foot of the Drakenstein Mountains, an ideal spot for wine growing.

Bellingham The Bernard Series

Bellingham's ultimate collection is The Bernard Series. It is named after Bernard Podlashuk, the man who took over Bellingham in 1943. After studying oenology in France and Italy, he was determined to elevate Bellingham's wines to a new level.
