The queen of the South African winelands. Numerous beautiful wines leave the cellars every year. The Bergsig Want Anna Chardonnay Reserve and Bergsig Oom Prop Cabernet Sauvignon are two iconic wines! The beloved Bergsig Chardonnay Barrel Fermented is also a fine wine, clearly showcasing Bergsig's craftsmanship.

The Bergsig wines from South Africa

When you think of South African wines, it's hard to ignore the De Wet family. A well-known name in the South African wine landscape. They own numerous wine estates and are masters of their beautiful vineyards. This family is also behind Bergsig Estate, one of South Africa's most impressive wineries. The De Wet Lategan family is the driving force behind this winery. Since its founding in 1843, at the foot of the Drakensberg Mountains, this family has held sway here. And with great success. It's now the seventh generation that runs Bergsig Estate. Thanks to their leading wines, we can safely say that this family has been important to South African wines.

The vineyards of Bergsig Estate

The name Bergsig wasn't chosen entirely by chance. It's a testament to the breathtaking views of the Drakensberg Mountains. When you stroll through the vineyards, the Drakensberg is prominently in your field of vision. Furthermore, the location of Bergsig Estate's vineyards depends on another crucial factor: the Breede River. This mighty river, which flows past Worcester, is a lifeblood for South African wines. Without it, these wines wouldn't have the allure they enjoy today.

Bergsig's South African wines

The vineyards boast numerous classics. After all, you have to do what you excel at. That's precisely why you'll find countless vines of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Pinotage, and Cabernet Sauvignon. But Bergsig Estate has also managed to incorporate some less accessible grapes. Take, for example, the Alsatian Gewürztraminer, from which the somewhat unconventional Bergsig Gewürztraminer wine is made. The Bergsig Cape LBV, made from Tinta Barocca, is completely unique. Although this wine resembles a port, legal regulations absolutely prohibit it from being called a port.
