An Italian dream, that's what we call Bolla's wines. A professional player in Veneto, the wine region in northeastern Italy. Roughly in the Verona-Venice-Lake Garda triangle, you'll find vineyards as far as the eye can see: thousands of hectares of native varieties like Corvina, Molinara, Pinot Grigio, Garganega, and Trebbiano. However, Bolla is an odd duck. Besides the big names in Italian winemaking, the winery has also chosen international all-rounders. That's why, alongside the native varieties, you'll also see beautiful vines of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The most beautiful winery in Italy
When we talk about Bolla, we're immediately struck by the similarities with perhaps the most legendary winery ever, Château Mouton Rothschild, from Pauillac. Just like Rothschild, Bolla actually came about by chance: an innkeeper wanted to serve his guests a wine he had developed himself. Abele Bolla came up with this idea at the end of the 19th century, and it has resulted in Bolla becoming a renowned Italian winery. However, Bolla shares even more similarities with Rothschild. The current winemaker also worked for Baron de Rothschild. So, we can safely conclude that Bolla's wines are guaranteed to be nothing short of excellent.
The Italian wines of Bolla
Bolla Winery is located in Veneto, northern Italy. This wine region produces a wide range of exceptional wines: Bardolino, Soave, Amarone, Valpolicella, and Prosecco. All resonant names, names that will make your mouth water. Bolla has a proven track record, particularly in the Amarone region. The Bolla Amarone Le Poiane is one of Bolla's best-selling wines. But accessible favorites like the Bolla Soave Classico and Bolla Pinot Grigio Real Casa are also well worth a try.
Award-winning wines
The quality of Bolla wines is primarily attributable to the numerous awards they have earned. Several wines have received respected mentions in De Grote Hamersma, perhaps the most important reference work for Dutch wine drinkers. Several Bolla wines received an 8 or higher, which is already a fantastic score. There were, of course, some standouts as well. For example, the Bolla Creso Rosso Verona, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Corvina, received a 9-. The top score goes to the Bolla Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico. With a score of 9+, this is Bolla's absolute top wine.
