Luberon is a mountainous region in the French departments of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Vaucluse; an east-west-oriented extension of the Alps. This region is approximately sixty kilometers long and five kilometers wide and is divided into "Grand Luberon" and "Petit Luberon." At the foot of the Grand Luberon, north of Aix-en-Provence, lies Château Val Joanis. Spread across 400 hectares of lush and unspoiled protected nature, the 100 hectares of vineyards lie on clayey limestone and benefit from the warm sunny days and cool nights of this part of Provence. The soil type and the very favorable climate allow Val Joanis to produce powerful, elegant wines and a fruity rosé made from Syrah and Grenache. The cellars include a barrel store and modern, sophisticated winemaking equipment.
