Pure wines from Languedoc-Roussillon. Home to exquisite wines. Couveys Winery has struck gold with its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. These excellent wines are truly exceptional within the Languedoc-Roussillon range. They have a distinct Burgundian flavor, which is why Couveys' popularity continues to grow.

The French wines from the Languedoc Roussillon

We travel to Languedoc Roussillon, affectionately known as the wine cellar of France. This region, in the far south of France, with the Pyrenees on its doorstep, has an impressive track record. However, there was a time when things were different. The vineyards here used to produce an enormous amount of grapes, and bottles would constantly be pouring out of the cellars. However, the quality was often severely lacking. Pure, mass-produced wines lacking inspiration. Fortunately, many winemakers, including Couveys, decided this had to change. Languedoc Roussillon now produces excellent wines that stand out for their expansive price-quality ratio.

The vineyards of Couveys

As we take a morning walk, the dew still on the leaves, amid the Couveys vines, we see the Pyrenees in the distance. This mighty mountain range is almost impossible to miss in the landscape. However, they are crucial for the vineyards. They block the warm southerly wind, keeping the Couveys vineyards relatively cool. Many grape varieties don't thrive in this, but the Couveys winemaker has found a solution.

The vineyards are exclusively filled with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. The latter, in particular, is a hit. Pinot Noir grew up in Burgundy, where, thanks to the mild climate, it produced iconic wines. Couveys wanted to replicate this in the south of France. Because the climate is somewhat mild in Couveys' vineyards, the resulting Pinot Noir is quite comparable to a Pinot Noir from Burgundy.

The Chardonnay from Couveys

But Couveys' white wine is also definitely worth a try. Its strength lies primarily in the short oak aging. Just a few months. But that's enough. If you don't need more, you shouldn't bother. This makes Couveys Chardonnay the perfect combination of fruitiness and freshness, with a creamy texture. Balanced and well-balanced: exactly how we like our French wines.
