When you think of Deakin, you immediately think of excellent Australian wines. For years, they've been making accessible, friendly wines for everyone who loves wine. Initially, they were primarily a bottler. However, the family behind Deakin Winery increasingly immersed themselves in viticulture in Southeast Australia. By continuously investing and innovating in their prestigious vineyards, Deakin has risen to the top of Australian wines.
Australian wine from Deakin Estate
The winery is located in Southeast Australia, the birthplace of Australian wines. Most Australian wines are produced in this state, simply because the climate in the rest of Australia is too hot. When we drove to Deakin Estate, we were in for a huge surprise. The estate is immense: a whopping 600 hectares! Even in the vastness of Australia, these are staggering numbers. However, "only" 350 hectares are occupied by vines. The remaining space is reserved for citrus trees.
Deakin's wines
Deakin Winery produces an astronomical quantity of grapes. This allows them to sell some of their grapes to other wineries. However, they reserve the best grapes for their own phenomenal wines. Their focus is on classic grapes, from which Deakin primarily produces single-varietal wines. It's striking that, in addition to classics like Deakin Estate Chardonnay and Deakin Estate Shiraz, Deakin also produces unique wines. The Deakin Estate Moscato is a prime example. Its slightly sweet character makes this white wine popular with a wide audience.
The Azahara wine from Deakin Estate
In addition to their classic wines, Deakin has embarked on a new adventure. This venture is called Azahara and has proven to be a resounding success since its launch. With Azahara, Deakin aims to create a successful Australian sparkling wine that will appeal to everyone. We can confidently say they've more than succeeded. Azahara Brut Deakin is an Australian equivalent of the acclaimed champagne. With Chardonnay and Pinot Noir as its base, the similarities are palpable. They also make a delicious sparkling wine from the Shiraz grape, Azahara Sparkling Shiraz Deakin.
Deakin's finest wine
Whatever you're planning, a wine from Deakin Estate will never go amiss. A drinks reception, a birthday party, a lunch, or a barbecue: Deakin Estate is always a good choice. The Deakin Sauvignon Blanc, for example, is a true thirst-quencher, especially recommended in summer. If you're looking for plenty of dark fruit, we recommend the Deakin Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. A standout in our selection is the Deakin Estate Viognier. This is one of the few 100% Viognier wines from this part of Australia.
