The current form of Wiengut Ellerman-Spiegel is thanks to Frank Spiegel. About 15 years ago, he took over the Ellerman Winery, including 48 hectares of vineyards, from his stepfather, Harald Ellerman. He renamed the winery Ellerman-Spiegel and set to work diligently on the vineyards. This hard work is now paying off, as Ellerman-Spiegel wines are incredibly popular with consumers. Frank Spiegel still leads the winery with great enthusiasm.

Ellerman-Spiegel produces the best wines from Palatinate

Because the climate in the Palatinate is relatively warm and dry, especially compared to the rest of Germany, the grapes grow incredibly well. A unique microclimate prevails in the vineyards. Summers can be sunny and dry, and winters are surprisingly mild. The grape varieties planted, with the exception of Chardonnay, are all local varieties, particularly well-known in German viticulture. These include Grauburgunder, Riesling, and the acclaimed Dornfelder.

What a difficult question. All the wines from Weingut Ellerman Spiegel seem to be perfect. Our oenologists have selected two wines that are in contention for the title of best wine. First, the Ellerman Spiegel Spatburgunder. This grape, the German equivalent of Pinot Noir, thrives perfectly in the Ellerman Spiegel vineyards. Another standout is the Ellerman Spiegel Chardonnay Goldkapsel. This fantastic Chardonnay has been partially aged in oak, which gives it a sensational flavor.
