This unique winery was founded in 1970. Today, it's located in Monte Porzio Catone, a small town near Rome. Just a half-hour drive away, you're in the heart of Rome, where the Coliseum, the Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps perfectly embody the Italian culinary tradition. The winery offers a variety of wines produced in southern Italy. Epicuro is particularly active in Puglia, but also produces successful wines in other regions such as Abruzzo and Sicily.
Epicuro's vision
Fifty years ago, Epicuro was founded by Armando Merge. This man had a clear and distinct vision for his winery: to produce beautiful, pure wines in southern Italy at a reasonable price. A balanced price-quality ratio. Felice Merge, Armando's son, has since taken over the winery. He continues this family tradition. Epicuro stands for enjoyment, and we can attest to that. Every sip of Epicuro wine is an Italian celebration.
The vineyards in Puglia
Epicuro focuses primarily on Puglia. This wine region in the far south of Italy, also known as the heel of the boot, is now known for its sublime wines. Previously, the region produced mostly mass-produced wines, which were not of decent quality. However, several wineries, including Epicuro, have joined forces, and Puglia has become known worldwide as an excellent wine region. Wines made from the Negroamaro and Primitivo grapes, in particular, are highly regarded by the international wine public.
Diversity and creativity
But Epicuro can do more. Much more. Epicuro is active in many Italian wine regions. The Epicuro Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, for example, is a well-known wine that has already captured many hearts. This wine comes from Abruzzo, a province located on the Adriatic coast, much further north than Puglia. Epicuro has also invested heavily in viticulture in Sicily. For example, the Epicuro Vermentino and Epicuro Nero d'Avola originate from Sicily. Epicuro is a pioneer in southern Italy and has become a leader in the Italian wine landscape.
Epicuro Prize Winners
For the past fifty years, Epicuro has specialized in varietal wines. These are wines made from a single grape variety. Epicuro's expertise in this area was recently recognized. Several wines received awards in the most recent edition of De Grote Hamersma. Published by the Netherlands' most renowned wine journalist, Harold Hamersma, the Epicuro Pinot Grigio and the Epicuro Rosato Rosé received an 8! These award-winning wines are also available for order at perfectewijn.nl.
