Gosset is the oldest existing champagne house. It was founded in 1584 by Pierre Gosset, then alderman of Ay. At that time, Pierre Gosset produced only still wines; the "campagne" (wine) had not yet been invented. It wasn't until the monk Dom Pérignon invented champagne that Gosset began producing this sparkling wine. From Ay, just north of Epernay, Gosset delighted many with its magnificent champagne bottles.
