A pleasant enough trip from the south of France. After a long drive along the Route du Soleil, passing cities like Metz, Dijon, and Lyon, we finally arrived in France's largest wine region: the Languedoc. Home to many thousands of Dutch tourists, who continue to enjoy the charm of the Languedoc every year. Amidst the countless campsites, tourist attractions, and picturesque villages, we found a magnificent winery we've been fond of for years: Guillaume.

The Guillaume wines from the Languedoc

Guillaume is a winery that made its name with Languedoc wines. However, they have endured turbulent times. Until the late 1980s, the Languedoc had a dubious reputation. Wine was indeed produced there, but it was primarily quantity rather than quality that was the success. Fortunately, Guillaume always remained true to itself and achieved exceptional quality long before other wineries. Today, Guillaume wines are still known as perhaps the finest in all of Southern France.

The vineyards of Guillaume wine

Guillaume's vineyards are perfectly nestled in the impressive Languedoc landscape. When we take a walk through the vineyards, our senses are repeatedly treated to new vistas. The vineyards primarily cultivate Languedoc's leading grapes, such as Chardonnay, Carignan, and Merlot. However, Guillaume has also chosen to cultivate some lesser-known varieties. Viognier, for example, has also earned a prominent place. The Colombard and Gros Manseng plantings are also unique. Combined with the refreshing Sauvignon Blanc, these grapes create Guillaume's masterful wine, La Gloire de Guillaume Sauvignon Colombard Gros Manseng.

What is Guillaume's best wine?

If you ask our vinologists, this is an impossible question. Because let's be honest: every Guillaume wine offers the same exorbitant price-quality ratio. A price-quality ratio that other wineries in the Languedoc are constantly envious of.

In our opinion, the 'La Gloire de Guillaume' wines are truly exceptional. The full-bodied Carignan Vieilles Vignes is truly exceptional. A personal favorite is undoubtedly the La Gloire de Guillaume Chardonnay Viognier. This wine effortlessly blends two distinctive grape varieties, something we're thrilled about.
