Over three decades, Hamilton Russel Winery has become one of South Africa's finest wineries. And they're quite proud of it. Hamilton Russel is mentioned alongside other renowned wineries. Thanks to the dedication of the Hamilton Russel family, they've also put the Hemel en Aarde Valley on the map for many wine lovers.
Hamilton Russell's South African wines
The history goes back a surprisingly long way. Tim Hamilton Russell purchased a 170-hectare piece of vacant land in 1975 during his search for a place to produce cool-climate wines. It wasn't until 1991 that he began producing wine commercially on this land. In 1994, his son, Anthony Hamilton Russell, took over the winery. Anthony registered the land as an estate and commissioned extensive terroir research. Ultimately, 52 hectares remained, where the finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes are currently grown.
A wood-aged Chardonnay from Hamilton Russel
The Hamilton Russell Chardonnay is perhaps the most beloved Chardonnay in the world. Wine drinkers worldwide drool at the mere mention of its name. It truly is among the best. The grapes are grown just three kilometers from the ocean, giving them a remarkable freshness. More than 90 percent of the grapes are fermented in select French oak. This results in a very full-bodied Chardonnay that Chardonnay lovers will be delighted with.
The best Pinot Noir is from Hamilton Russell
Pinot Noir is a headstrong grape. However, true Pinot Noir enthusiasts will instantly fall in love the moment they lift a glass of Hamilton Russell Pinot Noir to their lips. We can say, without boasting, that this Hamilton Russell Pinot Noir is the best in all of South Africa. Unfortunately, only a small number are produced. Only 30,000 bottles leave the Hamilton Russell cellars each year. So be quick, because the Hamilton Russell Pinot Noir will be sold out before you know it.
