Hugel wines from Alsace
Hugel is located in perhaps the most fairytale-like wine region of France: Alsace. The picturesque, almost abstract houses, with German characteristics, make it seem as if you are walking through a fairytale. The whole scene is somewhat idyllic. Amidst the countless small villages, you will find the most beautiful wineries that have existed for centuries. One such winery is Hugel, which has its base in Riquewihr. The winery was founded by Hans Ulrich Hugel, whose initials can still be found on the labels of Hugel's wine bottles. Both the 12th and 13th generations are now at the helm of Hugel, meaning the winery has been around for quite some time; Hugel was founded in 1639.
The Hugel wine vineyards
At Hugel's vineyards, Marc Hugel (12th generation) and Marc-Andre and Jean-Frederic (13th generation) lead with the same passion as their ancestors did. Hugel's acreage covers just over 30 hectares. The majority of this is located in the Grand Cru area. This is precisely why Hugel's wines are known for their perfect quality.
The best Alsace wines from Hugel
In Hugel's vineyards, you will only find the great varietals from Alsace. These include the pure Pinot Blanc, the complex Riesling, the aromatic Pinot Gris, and the spicy Gewürztraminer. However, Hugel has also developed its own unique wine, which brings together all the beautiful aspects of Alsace into a bottle of perfect wine. We are, of course, talking about Hugel Gentil: a white wine where Gewürztraminer, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Riesling come together perfectly.
