This winery was born out of pure passion. Its origins lie in Marseille, in the far south of France. Jean-Luc grew up in a family where food was paramount; his mother, after all, was a chef. Later in life, he decided to study oenology and became captivated by the unique French wine regions. He realized that winemaking is an art. An art that begins in the vineyards and ends in the cellar. His vision of winemaking was innovative and revolutionary. He became deeply drawn to the northern Rhône, and especially to the somewhat neglected Cornas region, a region of the Rhône where Syrah is the foundation. Together with his wife, Anne, he founded the Jean-Luc Colombo winery in the early 1980s. He was the odd one out. While wineries had been producing traditional and classic wines for centuries, Jean-Luc Colombo introduced an innovative technique: focusing purely on the terroir and utilizing it optimally.
The vineyards of Jean-Luc Colombo
Jean-Luc Colombo has been established in the most beautiful part of the northern Rhône for nearly forty years. The vineyards are primarily home to the king and queen of the Côtes du Rhône: Syrah and Viognier. However, Jean-Luc Colombo has also given other grape varieties a place in the vineyards. Think of the spicy Mourvedre, the juicy Grenache Noir, and the plump Clairette and Roussanne grapes.Jean-Luc Colombo also makes wine outside the Rhône. Consider, for example, the Languedoc region, near the village of Les Girelles. Jean-Luc Colombo Les Girelles Picpoul de Pinet has been produced here for years. Picpoul de Pinet wines are truly distinctive. Mineral and salty: ideal with all kinds of seafood.
