Juvé & Camps Essential Púrpura Reserva Brut 2022 is an organic Cava from Penedès, made using the traditional method and aged for a minimum of 24 months in the bottle. This brut combines Macabeo, Xarel·lo, and Parellada in a fresh, dry style with fine bubbles, green apple, white flowers, fennel, and subtle notes of bread crust.
Vineyards and region
Essential Púrpura 2022 largely comes from Espiells, Juvé & Camps' main vineyard estate.
Location / Origin: Espiells is located in Penedès and forms an important part of Juvé & Camps' sparkling wines.
Altitude: The vineyards are situated at an altitude of 180–250 m. This helps to maintain freshness and aromatic tension in the base wines.
Soil: The soils consist of loam and limestone. This combination gives the wine its fresh structure and refined, dry character.
Vineyard management: The vineyards are organically managed, with attention to biodiversity, natural balance, and low yields.
Vinification and aging
The vinification aims for freshness, balance, and fine mousse.
Harvest & Pressing: The grapes are gently pressed, after which only the free-run juice is used for a pure, fresh base.
Fermentation: Each grape variety ferments separately in stainless steel tanks. This is followed by malolactic conversion, which softens the acidity and gives the wine more creaminess.
Blending: The blend is only assembled after the individual fermentations. This allows Juvé & Camps to precisely seek balance, freshness, and elegance.
Second fermentation: The second fermentation takes place in the bottle using the traditional method. This creates the fine bubbles and classic Cava structure.
Aging: The wine ages for a minimum of 24 months in the bottle. This gives it, in addition to fresh fruit, subtle notes of bread crust, smoke, and extra depth.
Alcohol percentage: At 12% alcohol, this Cava remains lively, crisp, and very drinkable.
Grape composition
The blend consists of three classic grape varieties from Penedès.
40% Macabeo – Penedès: Macabeo gives the wine white fruit, soft citrus, and a round, accessible base.
35% Xarel·lo – Penedès: Xarel·lo brings structure, freshness, fennel-like spiciness, and the dry tension that is so characteristic of good Cava.
25% Parellada – Penedès: Parellada provides floral notes, lightness, and extra elegance in the blend.
Tasting notes and serving suggestions
Light golden yellow in the glass, with fine, persistent bubbles and aromas of fennel, white flowers, green apple, bread crust, and light smokiness. The taste is fresh and crisp, with well-integrated bubbles that transition into a creamy, soft texture. The finish is long, harmonious, and refreshingly dry.
Serving temperature: Serve at 7–8 °C, so that the fine mousse, fresh apple notes, and spicy Xarel·lo expression come through beautifully.
Dishes: Delicious as an aperitif and with Eggs Benedict, salmon tartare with dill, spaghetti cacio e pepe, vegetable tempura, shellfish, tapas, or light appetizers.
