Mooiplaas Winery is a bit of an oddball. It's a massive estate. A whopping 250 hectares are owned by the Roos family, who have owned Mooiplaas for years. However, only 100 hectares are planted with vines. In addition, 60 hectares are an official nature reserve. Out of respect for nature, no pesticides are used on the nearby vineyards, and the family takes advantage of the natural conditions.

With 100 hectares of vineyards, Mooiplaas is no small player. There's a huge range of vineyards, particularly in altitude. This creates numerous microclimates, which ensure a diverse selection of grapes. There's plenty of variety in the vineyards. Mooiplaas wines are notable for their use of Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon, but grape varieties such as Pinotage, Chenin Blanc, and Merlot are also represented in the vineyards. The latter even produces one of the best-selling wines: Mooiplaas The Coco Chocolate Merlot.
