A unique Port house from Portugal. Niepoort is a star in producing Port. Its Colheita Port, in particular, is a big hit with the wine-drinking public. However, Niepoort has another ace up its sleeve: still wine. With this, Niepoort once again emphasizes its versatility within the Portuguese wine world.
The Port of Niepoort
Niepoort is a leading port and wine house from Portugal. From a small farm, it has grown into a substantial company. Chauvinistic as we are, we're quite proud that Niepoort has a Dutch touch. It was founded in 1842 by the Dutchman Eduard Kebe in Villa Nova de Gaia, located across from Porto, the port capital.
In 1847, Eduard Kebe was joined by business partner Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort. Together, they managed to turn the winery into a thriving business. However, shortly after Van der Niepoort joined, founder Eduard Kebe passed away. From then on, the company was renamed Niepoort, and the same family has been at the helm ever since.
The Portuguese vineyards of Niepoort
The fifth generation, Dirk van der Niepoort, now heads the winery. Together with his sister Verena, they have perfected and structured the Port House. They have since acquired numerous beautiful vineyards in the most beautiful locations in the Douro region. The vibrant heart of this company is located in the picturesque Quinta de Napoles. From here, the winemaker has a clear view of all of Niepoort's impressive vineyards.
Niepoort wines from Portugal
Besides Port, Niepoort also has a vibrant wine division. Niepoort became famous with their port wines, and they're conquering the world with their still wines. The iconic Gestolen Fiets wines, available in both red and white, have achieved near-legendary status among wine connoisseurs worldwide. But that's not all. Niepoort also boasts a few crown jewels among its wines. How about Niepoort Redoma Tinto? Or the ultimate flagship, Niepoort Charme. What's remarkable about these wines is that Niepoort incorporates all the indigenous grape varieties from Portugal into its stunning wines.
