Petrolo: Excellent Tuscan Wines

Petrolo is a prestigious winery located in the Val d'Arno di Sopra, Tuscany, near the Chianti Classico region. The estate, part of the medieval "Galantrona," was acquired by the Bazzocchi family in the 1940s. Since the 1980s, Lucia Sanjust Bazzocchi, together with her son Luca Sanjust, has shifted its focus to producing wines of the highest quality.

Petrolo offers a diverse range of wines that reflect the unique terroir of their vineyards. Some of their most prized wines include:

Galatrona: A 100% Merlot wine, often considered Petrolo's "Grand Cru." The vineyard for this wine, Galatrona-Feriale, is located 300 meters above sea level and is rich in clay, slate, and sandstone. The clay retains water well, which is essential for the Merlot grapes during the warm summer months. Galatrona wine was first released in 1994, and approximately 20,000 bottles are produced annually.

Bòggina: This wine has three varieties:
a)*: Made entirely from Sangiovese and vinified in large terracotta amphorae. Only 1,500 bottles are produced each year.
Bòggina B (Bianco): A white wine made from Trebbiano grapes, aged in French barriques. Only 600 bottles (and magnums) are produced annually.
Bòggina C (Classic): Made from 100% Sangiovese grapes, this wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels. The annual production is 10,000 bottles.
Campo Lusso: Made from Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 20 months in new French oak barrels. The production is extremely limited, with fewer than a thousand bottles.
