For this spectacular winery, we travel to one of Italy's most beautiful regions: Tuscany. This cradle of culture, nature, architecture, and literature holds a powerful appeal for thousands of Dutch tourists who flock to Tuscany. Vibrant cities like Pisa, Lucca, Siena, and, of course, Florence are clearly recognizable as authentic Tuscan towns. But Tuscany has another major asset: wine! The region south of Florence, in particular, is world-famous. We're talking, of course, about Chianti. A wine region recognizable by its unparalleled "little rooster." It's home to numerous wineries, with Renzo Masi being one of our favorites.
Italian wines from Tuscany
Tuscany has been considered one of Europe's most beautiful regions since the Renaissance. Winemaking also has a long history. The Chianti region, in particular, enjoyed considerable success in the second half of the 20th century. This was, and still is, the home of Sangiovese! But other wines, such as Brunello di Montalcino and the royal Bolgheri wines, also boast impressive renown. The Renzo Masi winery is well-known in the region. It focuses primarily on classic Chianti, though it's not averse to occasional excursions.
The wines of Renzo Masi
The Renzo Masi winery was founded in 1900. The eponymous founder established the winery in the famous wine village of Rufina, just east of Florence. From there, the Renzo Masi winery became the epitome of Chianti wines. Now, Paolo Masi, representing the third generation of the family, is at the helm. Under his watch, Renzo Masi's wines have undergone significant development.

Paolo Masi cherishes the authentic character his grandfather intended, but gives his Chianti wines a modern twist. This keeps Renzo Masi's wines relevant. But this maverick remains incredibly creative: His range also includes a truly appassimento wine. Renzo Masi Contrapasso is a balanced blend of Sangiovese and Syrah, made using a method inspired by Amarone.
