The Stellenbosch wines from South Africa
What Bordeaux is to French wines, Stellenbosch is to South African wines. In its relatively short time in the wine world, South Africa has already built an impressive reputation. Wine regions like Paarl, Franschhoek, Swartland, and Walker Bay are household names among wine connoisseurs. However, no matter how hard they try, it's Stellenbosch that takes all the honors, thanks in part to the quality wines of the illustrious Stellenrust region.
The Stellenbosch wines from South Africa
Stellenrust takes its name from the beautiful region where its vineyards are located. It lies in the southern part, just south of the main town of Stellenbosch. This places the vines slightly closer to the ocean. This creates a more balanced growth process, ensuring Stellenrust grapes of the highest quality. Furthermore, Stellenrust wines possess another significant advantage: an average large portion of the plantings can be classified as "old vines." This means the vines are at least 35 years old. This significantly reduces yields, but increases the quality of the grapes above average. This is a key characteristic of Stellenrust wines.
Stellenrust wine
Stellenrust's wine selection primarily features local grape varieties like Pinotage and Chenin Blanc. The former was even developed just a stone's throw from the winery, at Stellenbosch University. Besides these local grape varieties, the crowd-pleaser Chardonnay is also well-established. This is used to make the excellent Stellenrust Barrel Fermented Chardonnay.
