A winery with an idyllic story; we're always up for it. Survivor is one of those wines born from pure chance, boundless passion, and the unpredictable nature of nature. Thanks to these three factors, Survivor has grown into one of South Africa's largest wineries in just fifteen years.
The South African wines from Western Cape
The Nguni cow is prominently featured on Survivor's labels. It plays a vital role in and around the Survivor vineyards. This cow is still kept by the Zulu, the indigenous people of southwestern South Africa. One day, a truckload of cows was driving through the Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in Swartland. One stubborn cow decided to jump out of the truck and make a fresh start in Swartland. After many years, the cow is now a distinct part of the Swartland landscape; they proved to be true "survivors."
The wines of Survivor
Overhex, the umbrella winery, produces Survivor wines. Despite being among South Africa's top ten wineries, it's still a relatively young company. The driving force behind its success is Gerhard van der Wath. This former lawyer was a true "Survivor" because making wine was a new challenge. One he's mastered with aplomb; Overhex now produces nearly 10 million bottles annually!

The grapes for Survivor wine come from various regions in the vast Western Cape. The most striking are the vineyards in Swartland, one of South Africa's most impressive wine regions. It's primarily home to the local Chenin Blanc and Pinotage, but the formidable Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah also achieve great things here. It's no wonder Survivor Cabernet Sauvignon has garnered considerable international acclaim.
