For Talbott's excellent wines, we travel to Monterey. This wine region may not be as well-known as other Californian giants like Napa Valley and Sonoma County, but its wines are arguably the very best in all of California. For a long time, Monterey County wasn't considered a full-fledged wine region. Only when Talbott's founder, Rob Talbott, established his winery there in 1982 did this change. Thanks to the sheer craftsmanship delivered year after year by the winemaker behind Talbott's wines, Monterey County now enjoys an excellent reputation within the California wine world. The region now boasts many renowned wines, such as Pareto's, 7th District, and the renowned Bernardus.

Talbott's wines

Talbott is a highly distinctive winery in California. Many other wineries envy Talbott's vineyards. Since its founding in 1982, the estate has steadily expanded and acquired numerous vineyards. The total area now encompasses a staggering 565 hectares! That's a massive amount. Uniquely, only two grape varieties are planted there: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Together with winemaker David Coventry, a legend in California, Talbott strives to produce wines with a nod to Burgundy. Thanks to its favorable location and vineyards that are sometimes up to fifty years old, Wine Enthusiast declared Talbott's vineyards a Grand Cru of California in 2016!

Talbott's vineyards are divided into three parcels. The most famous of these is the Sleepy Hollow Vineyard, an icon among wine connoisseurs. Here, some of the finest and best grapes in perhaps all of California grow. The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo a rigorous selection process before they are included in the Talbott Sleepy Hollow Vineyard collection. This wine series is considered by our vintners to be California's best.
