We vinologists are fortunate enough to regularly embark on some truly impressive journeys: all in search of that one Perfect Wine. We've now managed to compile a wide selection, but our passion for discovery continues to grow. This led to a new journey of discovery last spring. We couldn't wait to travel to one of our favorite wine regions. Where time seems to stand still, yet innovations follow one another in rapid succession. Welcome to Tuscany, the birthplace of Sangiovese wines.

Wines from Tuscany

Tuscan wines: who doesn't know them? Almost every European can still get them before they're gone. The wicker-covered bottles with the iconic rooster on the wrapper. Many an Italian in the 1990s proudly displayed the entire collection on their shelves. Authentic: definitely. Atmosphere-setting? Absolutely! Taste: doubtful. For a long time, the simple, mass-produced wines were what epitomized Tuscan wines. However, Tuscany has (and had!) much more to offer. Besides the simple local wines made with native grape varieties, Tuscany is also known as the Bordeaux of Italy, thanks in part to the high concentration of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc plantings.

The wines of Tenuta Sette Ponti

Nestled in the rolling countryside amidst cultural cities like Arezzo and bustling Florence, you'll find the Tenuta Sette Ponti winery. As soon as we approach the driveway, we're immediately captivated by the grandeur of this estate. The Sette Ponti family has owned it since the 1950s. It was Antonio Sette Ponti's father who purchased the estate from none other than Margherita and Maria Cristina Savoia-Aosta, of the House of Savoy, who formed Italy's royal family until 1946. So, the wines of Tenuta Sette Ponti are not only incredibly delicious—they also have a regal touch.

Dedication and passion are the key words for Tenuta Sette Ponti's wines. The family leaves nothing to chance. While the wines may not have a DOC classification, they are every bit as good as Bolgheri wines. Using classic grape varieties like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, the Sette Ponti family creates true gems.
