A unique winery from the far north of Italy. We're heading to Alto Adige, a region located roughly between western Austria and the idyllic Lake Garda. This area is truly special. It was once part of the conflict between Italy and Austria, where both countries fought over this hilly region. Ultimately, Italy gained control of Alto Adige. However, the conflict is still very much visible in the streets; German is widely spoken here. Even the address of the Tramin winery is entirely in German. The winery is located in the village of Tramin, along Tramin an der Weinstraße.

The Tramin wines from Italy
The story of Tramin dates back to the end of the 19th century, to the year 1889. Christian Schrott, a Parisian priest, founded the Tramin cooperative, named after the village of the same name. A masterstroke, because today, Tramin encompasses no fewer than 270 local winegrowers, representing over 230 hectares of vineyards. The dividing line between Austria and Italy is also evident in the grape varieties used. Pinot Bianco, Gewürztraminer, and the local blue grape Lagrein feature prominently in Tramin's range. Thanks in part to the slightly cooler climate, these grapes thrive in Alto Adige. Fortunately, Tramin has also planted numerous well-known varieties such as Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay, with which they also produce excellent wines.Why buy Tramin wine?
