Fermenting Alvarinho grapes in wooden barrels and using traditional winemaking techniques, such as fermentation on skins, are just a few of the methods that distinguish these wines in the world of white wines.

The vinification of Anselmo Mendes Muros Antigos Loureiro

It's no secret that the Alvarinho grape is a great passion for Anselmo Mendes. But the Vinho Verde wine region naturally has many other wonderful grapes to offer. Take, for example, the delicious Loureiro. This grape variety thrives particularly well in the central part of the region, around Braga. This area is more influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, and under these conditions, this Loureiro thrives. This is precisely where Anselmo Mendes sources these grapes. This Loureiro comes from the Lima River Valley, which experts consider the best location. After harvest, the grapes undergo a short maceration on the skins, which enhances the wine's aroma. This is followed by low-temperature fermentation to develop beautiful fruit. Finally, the wine is aged on fine lees for at least four months. Anselmo Mendes manages to bring a beautiful aroma of citrus, mown grass, and flowers to this wine. But some chalky notes are also detectable. The taste is what we've come to expect from Mendes: beautiful and full of experience! This Muros Antigos Loureiro Anselmo Mendes has notes of citrus, a touch of salt, and a lovely white fruit bouquet.
