The Passerina grape has its roots on the Adriatic coast and can still be found in central Italy, particularly in Marche and Abruzzo. Il Conte Villa Prandone, located in Marche, uses this grape in its vineyards around the town of Offida to produce this refreshing and aromatic Ceppo.
The history of Il Conte Villa Prandone
Il Conte Villa Prandone was founded in the 1960s by Marino and his father, Amilcare. The company is now run by the third generation, the de Angelis brothers. These brothers grew up in the vineyards, where a love and passion for the land and its wines was instilled in them. With 50 hectares of vineyards, Villa Prandone focuses on cultivating native grape varieties such as Pecorino, Passerina, Montepulciano, and Sangiovese. The hilly surroundings of Villa Prandone benefit from the favorable influence of the Adriatic breeze, and the fluctuating temperatures provide the Pecorino grapes with the perfect conditions for optimal ripening. The Passerina grapes are grown in vineyards in the hills of Monteprandone. The vines are deeply rooted in clay soil, allowing the Pessarina grapes to develop optimally. The grapes are carefully harvested at peak ripeness and transported almost immediately to the winery, preserving their freshness. In the winery, a short maceration process allows the color and tannins to develop more fully.
