Jean Vullien & Fils Chignin-Bergeron Les Divolettes 2024 Savoie, France
Jean Vullien & Fils Chignin-Bergeron Les Divolettes 2024 is a full-bodied white mountain wine from Savoie, made from 100% Roussanne. In Savoie, this grape also forms the basis of Chignin-Bergeron, one of Domaine Jean Vullien & Fils' main white specialties. Les Divolettes comes from steep, sunny slopes near Montmélian and Francin, where slight overripeness, low-temperature fermentation, and the calcareous mountain soil combine to create ripe yellow fruit, spice, and fresh mineral tension.
Vineyards and Region
Les Divolettes comes from the Combe de Savoie, between Chambéry and Albertville.
• Location / Origin: The vineyards are located on the coteaux of Montmélian and Francin, sheltered from northern winds. This location helps Roussanne ripen fully without the wine losing its fresh, mountain character.
• Soil: The vines grow on calcareous scree soils with clay and stones. This subsoil gives the wine structure, tension, and a mineral undertone.
• Slope & Exposure: The slopes are steep, with a gradient of 30–50%, and face fully south. This provides the grapes with plenty of sun, which is important for the ripe, full-bodied style of Chignin-Bergeron.
• Vineyard: The plot consists of young and old vines. Approximately 45,000 bottles of this cuvée are produced.
Grape Composition
This white Savoie wine is made entirely from Roussanne.
• 100% Roussanne – Chignin-Bergeron: Roussanne gives this wine its full structure, golden-yellow color, aromatic spiciness, and notes of ripe yellow fruit. In Savoie, this grape yields wines with more volume and depth than many lighter mountain wines from the region.
Vinification and Aging
The vinification aims for aromatic richness, ripeness, and preservation of freshness.
• Harvest & Selection: The grapes are hand-harvested in successive selections. The focus is on slight overripeness to give the wine more richness, ripe fruit, and texture.
• Pressing & Preparation: After harvesting, direct pneumatic pressing and strict settling of the must follow. Pneumatic pressing is a gentle method that helps keep the juice pure and fine.
• Fermentation: Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at approximately 15 °C for 3 weeks. This cool fermentation helps balance fruit, spice, and freshness.
• Aging Potential: This Chignin-Bergeron can be aged for up to 5 years. With additional time in the bottle, the wine gains more roundness and its aromatic depth fully develops.
Tasting Notes and Serving Suggestions
Jean Vullien & Fils Chignin-Bergeron Les Divolettes 2024 has a deep golden color with a copper reflection. The aroma is rich and spicy, with quince, candied fruit, apricot, fig, bell pepper, and a chalky note. The taste is warm and supple, but remains fresh due to a clear mineral tension.
• Serving Temperature: Serve this Chignin-Bergeron at 10–12 °C and allow it some time in the glass for the spiciness, ripe fruit, and mineral freshness to fully open up.
• Food Pairing: Excellent with fish, white meat, light dishes with creamy sauces, fruit mousses, desserts with yellow fruit, and as a rich aperitif.
Awards
• Bronze medal, Concours des Grands Vins de France – Mâcon 2025: An official award for Chignin-Bergeron Les Divolettes from Domaine Jean Vullien & Fils.
• 4.0 stars, Vivino: A strong user score for Jean Vullien & Fils Les Divolettes Chignin-Bergeron.
