Louis Latour Mâcon-Lugny Les Genièvres 2024 Burgundy, France
Louis Latour Mâcon-Lugny Les Genièvres 2024 is a white Burgundy made from Chardonnay from Lugny, a high-altitude village in the south of the Mâconnais. Les Genièvres is considered one of the best vineyards in Lugny and gives this wine more concentration than one often expects within Mâcon-Lugny. Thanks to the calcareous clay soil, 30-year-old vines, and maturation in stainless steel, this Chardonnay acquires its recognizable combination of floral aroma, round structure, and fresh length.
Vineyards and region
Mâcon-Lugny is located in the south of Burgundy, in the Mâconnais, where Chardonnay is the most important white grape variety.
• Location / Origin: Lugny is situated high in the southern part of the Mâconnais. The village has a strong reputation for white wines and plays an important role in the renown of Mâcon as a Chardonnay area.
• Vineyard: Les Genièvres is considered one of Lugny's best vineyards. Louis Latour selects the best grapes from the village for this, giving the wine more depth and precision than a broader Mâcon wine.
• Soil: The vines grow on clay and limestone. Clay contributes to roundness and ripe fruit, while limestone provides freshness, tension, and a refined mineral undertone.
• Vineyard & Harvest: The vines are on average 30 years old, and the yield is around 50 hl per hectare. The grapes are harvested mechanically, in keeping with the reliable, pure style of this cuvée.
Grape composition
This white Burgundy is made entirely from Chardonnay.
• Chardonnay – Mâcon-Lugny: Chardonnay gives this wine its floral aromas, yellow fruit notes, round attack, and fresh finish. In the Mâconnais, the grape often achieves slightly more ripeness and softness than in cooler Burgundian origins, while stainless steel keeps the style pure and lively.
Vinification and aging
The vinification focuses on bright fruit, soft roundness, and a fresh, unoaked style.
• Fermentation: The wine ferments traditionally in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and undergoes full malolactic fermentation. This keeps the fruit clean and fresh, while the acidity softens and the wine feels rounder.
• Aging: The wine ages for 8–10 months in stainless steel tanks. This ensures that the floral aromas, yellow fruit, and fresh finish remain clearly present, without the influence of wood.
• Aging potential: This Mâcon-Lugny has an aging potential of 2–3 years. This suits the fresh, accessible style, where fruit, roundness, and immediate drinkability are central.
Tasting notes and serving suggestions
In the glass, Mâcon-Lugny Les Genièvres 2024 has a brilliant pale gold color. The aroma is floral and expressive, with acacia, honeysuckle, and a subtle hint of vanilla. The taste is round and generous, with yellow fruit and an elegant finish with good length.
• Serving temperature: Serve this Mâcon-Lugny at 10–12 °C, so that the floral aromas, yellow fruit, and round structure come together beautifully.
• Dishes: Delicious with grilled fish, shellfish, light chicken dishes, charcuterie, and Comté.
More information about Maison Louis Latour
Maison Louis Latour was founded in 1797 and is one of Burgundy's historic family houses. The house remains independent and in the hands of the founding family, with a 50-hectare estate and a style where origin, elegance, and precision are central. Mâcon-Lugny Les Genièvres shows the southern Burgundy side of Louis Latour: more accessible than the grand Côte d'Or wines, but still clearly made with the same attention to Chardonnay and terroir.
