Louis Latour Mâcon-Lugny Les Genièvres 2023 0,375L Burgundy, France

Louis Latour Mâcon-Lugny Les Genièvres 2023 0.375L is a half-bottle of white Burgundy made from Chardonnay in Lugny, a high-altitude village in the south of the Mâconnais. Les Genièvres is considered one of the best vineyards in the village and gives this wine its round, floral, and approachable style. Fermentation and aging in stainless steel keep the wine fresh and pure, with notes of muscat, brioche, yellow peach, and a beautiful length.

Vineyards and region

Mâcon-Lugny is located in the Mâconnais, the southern part of Burgundy where Chardonnay is the most important white grape.

Location / Origin: Lugny is situated high in the south of the Mâconnais. This village has a strong reputation for white Burgundy and plays an important role in Mâcon's renown as a Chardonnay region.

Vineyard: Les Genièvres is considered one of Lugny's best vineyards. The selection from this origin gives the wine more roundness, depth, and length than a broader Mâcon wine.

Soil: The vines grow on clay and limestone. Clay contributes to a rounded structure, while limestone helps preserve freshness and tension in the wine.

Vineyard & Harvest: The vines are on average 30 years old, and the yield is around 50 hl per hectare. The grapes are harvested mechanically, in keeping with the pure and reliable style of this cuvée.

Grape composition

This white Burgundy is made entirely from Chardonnay.

Chardonnay – Mâcon-Lugny: Chardonnay gives this wine its floral aromas, soft roundness, and ripe yellow fruit notes. In the Mâconnais, the grape often develops a slightly fuller, suppler style than in cooler Burgundian appellations, while stainless steel keeps the wine fresh and clear.

Vinification and aging

The vinification aims for pure fruit, roundness, and a fresh, unoaked style.

Fermentation: The wine is traditionally fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and undergoes full malolactic fermentation. This keeps the fruit clean and fresh, while the acidity softens and the wine feels rounder.

Aging: The wine ages for 8–10 months in stainless steel tanks. This ensures that the floral aromas, yellow fruit, and fresh finish remain prominent, without any oak influence.

Aging Potential: This Mâcon-Lugny has an aging potential of 2–3 years. This aligns well with its approachable style, where fruit, roundness, and immediate drinkability are key.

Tasting notes and serving suggestions

In the glass, Mâcon-Lugny Les Genièvres 2023 has a pale yellow color. The aroma is intense, with notes of muscat and brioche, followed by a ample and round taste of yellow peach. The finish has a beautiful length and remains elegantly fresh.

Serving temperature: Serve this Mâcon-Lugny at 10–12 °C, allowing the muscat, brioche, yellow peach, and fresh roundness to harmonize beautifully.

Dishes: Delicious with grilled fish, shellfish, light chicken dishes, charcuterie, and Comté cheese.

Awards

90/100, James Suckling (2023): Praised for its fresh, steely style with apple, lemon, minerality, flint, lively acidity, and a subtle drinkable character.

4.0 stars, Vivino: A strong user rating for this fresh and round white Burgundy from Louis Latour.
