Vintage Report
2023 was een uitdagend maar succesvol oogstjaar in de Moezel. De wijnen kenmerken zich door rijpe fruitaroma's en een levendige zuurgraad, wat resulteert in evenwichtige en expressieve Rieslings.
The ripe grapes for this Riesling come from vines that are at least 30 years old. These vines are planted on steep slopes of over 35% along the Saar. Thanks to Van Volxem's expertise and the unique terroir found here, a beautiful dry Riesling is created.
Riesling wines at a particularly high level
Van Volxem's wines are impressive in their own right and are among the best in the Saar and Germany. The estate is located in the historic center of Wiltingen. Originally a monastery estate that owned large plots of vineyards in the 18th century, the average age of the vines is 40 years, with some exceeding 100 years old. The winery has been in the Van Volxem family for four generations but was taken over by Roman Niewodniczanski in 2000. He completely restored the estate and has strived from day one to optimally express the diverse terroirs. His approach produces authentic Riesling wines of an exceptionally high standard. Van Volxem's dry white wines are characterized by elegance and a tremendous tension of acidity, fruity sweetness, and minerality.Manual harvest for Van Volxem Saar Volxem Riesling
The ripest Riesling grapes are harvested entirely by hand and selected in the vineyards. The grapes are gently pressed and spontaneously fermented in steel tanks using wild yeasts. Finally, the wine is aged for six to seven months on the fine lees in stainless steel tanks. This gives the wine a pleasant texture and creaminess. The result is a Van Volxem Riesling with complex nose notes of figs, mirabelles, caramelized orange jam, roasted almonds, and a delicate herbaceous spice. On the palate, a very crumbly texture with extremely subtle tertiary fruit, a light residual sweetness paired with elegant acidity, and charming and drinkable, earthy mineral notes on the finish.Product details
