Albert Bichot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru “Les Malconsorts” 2018 | Sublime neighbors of La Tâche
Just 400 meters from Romanée-Conti and right next to La Tâche, Les Malconsorts is one of Vosne-Romanée's most prestigious terroirs. This Premier Cru from Domaine du Clos Frantin (Albert Bichot) produces an intense, layered Pinot Noir in its 2018 vintage, flawlessly combining power and silky finesse. A wine of aristocratic class, made for longevity.
Origin and terroir – limestone, sun and history
The 4.35 hectare vineyard lies on warm, perfectly drained Rendzina limestone soil. The vines are 35 to 40 years old and enjoy exceptional sunshine. The name "Malconsorts" refers to legal disputes over ownership of this magnificent plot of land—no wonder, given its location between legendary sites like La Tâche and Richebourg.
Vinification and maturation – pure expression of variety and place
The grapes are hand-picked and rigorously selected. Fermentation and maceration take place in thermoregulated wooden vats and last 18 to 21 days. The wine then matures for 16 to 17 months in French oak barrels, 35 to 40% of which are new, to impart structure and depth without overshadowing the terroir.
2018 vintage – sun-ripe and perfectly balanced
2018 was an exceptional year: the warmest of the 21st century, with a perfect balance between ripeness and freshness. The healthy, aromatically rich grapes allowed for the vinification of cuvées like these Malconsorts at the highest level. Albert Bichot opted for shorter and more precise aging, allowing the fruit and finesse to fully express themselves.
Tasting notes
A refined, complex nose with red cherries, raspberries, blackcurrants, subtle spices, and a hint of oak. On the palate, it's soft, layered, and powerful, with ripe tannins and a velvety texture. The finish is long, mineral, and exceptionally elegant. A Premier Cru with Grand Cru allure.
