Allendorf Rüdesheimer Riesling Feinherb VDP Ortswein, Rheingau, Germany
The Allendorf Rüdesheimer Riesling Feinherb VDP Ortswein is a village wine from Rüdesheim, demonstrating how terroir and residual sugar can create excitement together. What does VDP Ortswein mean? Within the VDP classification, Ortswein stands for a wine originating from specific, highly regarded vineyards around a single village, in this case Rüdesheim. It is the link between Gutswein and Erste Lage, with a clear expression of origin.
With 11.5% alcohol and a Feinherb style, this Riesling offers a subtle balance between light residual sweetness and refined acidity.
Origin: Rüdesheim, Rheingau
The grapes come from the steep, south-facing slopes around Rüdesheim.
-
Rüdesheim: village with steep slopes and optimal sun exposure.
-
South-facing vineyards: ensure ripe grapes and intense aromas.
The combination of location and sun exposure results in concentrated aromas while retaining fresh acidity.
Grape and vinification
Riesling – Rüdesheim, Rheingau
Riesling is known for its high natural acidity and aromatic precision.
The harvest is selective, followed by gentle pressing. Fermentation takes place cool in stainless steel tanks, and the wine then ages on its fine lees. The wine is vegan and sealed with a screw cap.
Character and style
On the nose, you'll find lemon and lime, grassy notes, wet stone, honey, and peach. On the palate, balance is created by a fine amount of residual sugar against refined acidity. Here, too, lime, nectarine, wet stone, and grass return. The combination of low alcohol and present residual sweetness makes the wine lively and approachable.
Serve around 8–10 °C to optimally experience freshness and aromatic tension.
