The Alois Lageder winery in South Tyrol has been family-owned for five generations and is fully committed to treating nature and the vines with respect and sensitivity. Here, the grapes are grown according to biodynamic guidelines, which emphasizes the uniqueness of each individual location and enhances the quality of the wines. South Tyrol, in particular, nestled between the climatic Alps and the Mediterranean influence, is characterized by a vast diversity of different locations, soils, and climate zones. The Alois Lageder winery uses its wealth of experience, gained through centuries of knowledge of the rhythms and cycles of nature, to find the ideal location for each grape variety from the family's approximately 50 hectares of vineyards, bringing out the distinct characters of each location. This respectful approach to wine continues in the careful cellar work, resulting in a captivating variety of quality wines, each guaranteeing exceptional drinking pleasure.

High altitude grapes for Versalto

The grapes for this Pinot Bianco from Alois Lageder come from select vineyards in Buchholz and Penon. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 480 to 520 meters above sea level and face west and southeast. Below them lie stony, sandy, limestone soils with a climate characterized by high daytime and nighttime temperature fluctuations. The vines are up to 47 years old.

6 months of wood aging for Alois Lageder Versalto Pinot Bianco

The grapes are harvested entirely by hand when they are perfectly ripe. They are transported to the cellars as soon as possible for a rigorous selection process. Fermentation follows, after which they are aged for three months on their own fine lees in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the wine matures for another six months in large Slavonian wood barrels. The Versalto is delicate and extremely fruity on the nose, with aromas of apple and peach. Very subtle oak notes follow the nose. On the palate, it impresses with a distinct aroma and flavor, and an elegant, balanced body. With a fresh, harmonious finish, this wine, if properly stored, offers optimal drinking pleasure for three to five years.
