Alvaro Palacios Camins del Priorat

Camins del Priorat is one of our absolute top wines. The wine is produced by Alvaro Palacios in the Priorat region, northwest of Tarrogona in Catalonia. The Camins is sourced from eight different Priorat villages, situated on incredibly steep terraces of slate licorella. It is a blend of 35 percent Garnacha, 20 percent Cariñena, 20 percent Syrah, 15 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10 percent Merlot. The vines are between 10 and 40 years old.

The work of Alvaro Palacios is appreciated and admired worldwide. He is one of Spain's most renowned oenologists. But the road to his career was long. When he arrived in the small wine village of Gratallops in 1989, he had only a handful of supporters at his side, dedicated to unleashing the potential of this unique region. This region boasts exceptional climatic conditions, including over 3,000 hours of sunshine, 380 millimeters of annual rainfall, and cool nights. It also boasts a unique soil composition. Monks had already been cultivating wine here, and this tradition, over 600 years old, formed the foundation for Palacios' work. In the years that followed, he and his friends succeeded in producing fantastic wines distinguished by their mineral freshness.

A wine in perfect balance

The grapes are harvested by hand, completely destemmed, and then gently crushed. The entire hand-picked harvest is aged for six months in oak barrels. But even more remarkable is the low yield per hl/ha, at only twenty—a very low figure. We can therefore safely say that this Camins del Priorat contains the ultimate juice! The aroma offers beautiful hints of blackcurrant and blackberry, as well as herbs and licorice. The taste is typical of Alvaro Palacios: full and creamy with pronounced tannins!
