Alvaro Palacios Placet Valtomelleso

With the white Rioja Placet from the Valtomelleso vineyard, Palacios Remondo has chosen its own style: a wine with character, concentration, and complexity. They achieve this by avoiding excessive oak influence and aging. The result is this lively, gastronomic wine made from 100% Viura grapes with low yields per vine.

Spain's most influential producer

One of Spain's most important and influential producers, Alvaro Palacios, makes stunning wines in Priorat and Bierzo. His family hails from Rioja, and he is one of nine children of the owner of Bodega Palacios Remondo. But instead of working with the family estate, he wanted to do things a little differently. After studying winemaking in Bordeaux and working for two years at Château Petrus in Pomerol, he chose the Priorat region, where he purchased his first vineyard, Finca Dofí, in 1990. He added the now-iconic L'Ermita vineyard in 1993. Alvaro also makes wines in Bierzo, in a joint venture with his cousin Ricardo Perez, established in 1998, called Descendientes de J Palacios. This is the only white wine made by renowned Spanish winemaker Alvaro Palacios. Plácet Valtomelloso is a limited-production wine made from the indigenous Spanish grape variety Viura. This Placet comes from Valtomelloso, located in the central Montesa region. It is made from the Viura grape, and the average age of the vines is twenty years. The soil consists of limestone and clay. The yield of the vines is kept low. The harvest is hand-harvested, and the selection is rigorous. Partial destemming, eight-hour maceration, and subsequent vinification in oval oak vats. The young wine matures on the lees for another nine months.

The taste of Alvaro Palacios' only white wine

Plácet, meaning "agreement," is a beautiful straw-gold color, with enticing aromas of orange blossom, white pears, golden apples, and freshly baked brioche. Full-bodied with perfectly balanced acidity, this wine displays juicy flavors of white peaches, creamy honey, and soft minerality, along with subtle hints of chamomile and fennel.
