Anyone who has ever vacationed in Italy is undoubtedly familiar with the wines of Antiche Terre Venete. It is, after all, a very well-known winery among Italians. It is a collaboration between the Sancassasi and Degani families, who together established a beautiful winery in the early twentieth century. They plant local grape varieties on their estates, located near the village of Sezano. This village is situated in the Valpentena Valley and is renowned for its beauty. The Roman Empire produced all its wines on these estates, which is why the valley is also known as "The Valley of the Gods." Today, the Antiche Terre Venete winery is beloved, especially for its pure and ripe flavors in wines like this white Lugana.

The old vineyard for the Lugana

Antiche Terre Venete boasts a total of no less than fifty hectares of vineyards. They produce exquisite wines such as the renowned Amarone, as well as wonderful whites like this Lugana. The Lugana is made from Trebbiano grapes, all grown in a perfect climate. Plenty of sunshine, a cool breeze, and a strong soil structure provide the grapes with everything they need. Once ripe, they are harvested in mid-September and then immediately transported to Antiche Terre Venete. Here, the grapes are aged "sur lie" for six months. During this period, this Lugana develops its strength and suppleness. It becomes a wine to talk about—ripe, complex, and full-bodied!

The scent and taste of the Antiche Terre Venete Lugana

Take a large wine glass and pour this white Antiche Terre Venete Lugana, preferably at around 8 degrees Celsius. You'll then see a beautiful, clear, light yellow color with green highlights. Its aroma is rich and evokes impressions of tropical fruit, vanilla, green herbs, and a touch of citrus. On the palate, it's delightful, full-bodied, and robust, with plenty of exotic fruit. Some spice and lychee linger on the cheeks and the back of the tongue. The finish is long and full.
