For this beautiful family winery, Antiche Terre, we travel to the town of Sezano in central Veneto. Here, we find the vineyards and the magnificent, completely renovated winery of Antiche Terre. The vineyards and winery are located in the beautiful Valpantena Valley, also known as "The Valley of the Gods." The winemaking history here dates back to the Roman Empire. It was the Romans who recognized the beauty of the soil, environment, and climate for making the finest wines. Today, Antiche Terre is a collaboration of two families. They combined their expertise in the early 20th century. It was the Vittorio Sancassasi and Degani families who decided to start growing organic wines in their beloved Italy.

The old vineyard of Antiche Terre Venete

The winery owns approximately fifty hectares of vineyards, a large portion of which is still cultivated using a pergola system. Grape varieties such as Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, and Rondinella are used, along with small quantities of international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon. These grapes grow on old vines and are grown entirely organically. Thanks to the perfect climate, the grapes ripen very evenly and are partially harvested by hand. Upon arrival, the bunches are placed on sorting tables and thoroughly inspected. Only the best bunches are used in this red wine, after which the pressing follows. A gentle crushing produces the finest juice, the family explains. The ruby-red juice is then briefly stored in large wooden barrels before being ready to be enjoyed.

The aroma and taste of the red Antiche Terre wine

Let the fun begin, because we can assure you it's a unique piece of craftsmanship. As soon as the bottle is open, we smell the influence of the Italian sun. We smell abundant red fruit with a touch of spice. Upon pouring, we see a ruby red color with purple glints. The nose is captivated by fresh blackberries, cherries, and some spices like pepper and bay leaf. The taste is soft and delightful, with abundant ripe red fruit and hints of cherries and plums. The finish of this Antiche Terre red wine is smooth and, above all, very pure.
