Nerello Mascalese is a newcomer. This Sicilian wine is slowly but surely convincing wine drinkers of its greatness. It's a bit more vibrant than that other king of Sicily: Nero d'Avola. That's precisely why it perfectly captures the adventurous and vibrant spirit Sicily has to offer in wines. Our advice is clear: try a glass of Aulico Nerello Mascalese Terre Siciliane, and you'll be immediately convinced of this grape's power.
The Aulico wines from Italy
Aulico Nerello Mascalese Terre Siciliane is produced by Cantine Ermes. While it might not ring a bell with many, it's a major player in the Italian wine world. It all began in the summer of 1998, when several small, local winegrowers in western Sicily decided to collaborate following an earthquake that devastated their vineyards. The collaboration worked exceptionally well. So well that today, Cantine Ermes has no fewer than 2,373 members representing over 12,500 hectares of vineyards. Primarily in Sicily, but now also expanding to mainland Italy, where it boasts magnificent vineyards in both Puglia and Veneto.
Impressions of Aulico Nerello Mascalese Terre Siciliane
Our wine experts often call Nerello Mascalese the big brother of the already established Nero d'Avola. It has a bit more punch, robustness, and power, making Aulico Nerello Mascalese Terre Siciliane exceptionally well-suited to red or roasted meats. Enjoy it with a barbecue; it handles the variety of flavors thrown on the grill beautifully. Aulico Nerello Mascalese Terre Siciliane has a hint of spice and herb, enveloped by a curtain of wild berries and red fruit. Extremely juicy with a firm texture.
