A fruity blend of white grape varieties Roussanne, Viognier, Chenin Blanc, and Semillon. This gives this wine, called Cyclus, intense fruit flavors and a unique character. The grape varieties complement each other, each lending its own unique character to this wine from Avondale Winery.
The centuries-old Avondale Winery
Some of the finest South African wines are thanks to Avondale Winery. For over 300 years, the vineyards here have produced superb grapes. "Soil is life" is the motto Avondale Winery adheres to. The soil is the foundation upon which the grapes develop, and according to the winemakers, this is something you must adhere to. Therefore, natural ecosystems are utilized and respected. Avondale operates entirely biodynamically, which has a beneficial effect on the microclimate in the vineyard. Everything revolves around Mother Nature. The grapes benefit from the warm weather, but the water flowing down from the mountain waterfalls naturally cools them. This allows the grapes to ripen optimally and develop their unique characteristics.
12 months maturation for Avondale Cycle
Cycle refers to the spiral found in every aspect of nature and represents power and dynamism. The grapes are carefully harvested and pressed as whole bunches. The juice is then fermented naturally in oak barrels. Fifteen to 20 percent is fermented as whole bunches, giving the wine unique body and length. After fermentation, the wine is aged on the lees for 12 months.
This beautiful Avondale Cyclus has a soft, rich nose with aromas of violets and peach. This carries beautifully through to the palate, where intense flavors of pear, pineapple, apricot, and fig are rounded out by soft, subtle oak for a creamy, long-lasting finish.
