Typical Italian wines from Pra
Pra Winery was founded in the early 1980s and has become one of the top producers in the Soave appellation. They are known for their distinctively Italian white wines. They own 30 hectares in Soave and 7 hectares in Valpolicella. Owner Graziano Pra emphasizes natural viticulture, and some of the vineyards are already organically certified. Only native grape varieties are used, with the white wines primarily made from Garganega or Trebbiano. The red wines are made from the renowned Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella.
The Garganege grapes are grown on the 14-hectare Pra estate, located near the town of Monteforte d'Alpone in the Classico subzone. The southeast-facing vines are planted at 150 meters above sea level, and the soil is volcanic. The vines are approximately 30-60 years old, and the Pergola Veronese training system is used. The grapes are generally harvested sometime between mid-September and mid-October. They are then soft-pressed and fermented at a controlled temperature of 16-18 degrees Celsius in stainless steel vats. This helps preserve freshness and aromas. Aging takes place in tank on the lees until bottling in February of the following year to further enhance complexity and flavors.
