If we didn't know better, we'd initially thought we had a small Sancerre in our glass. Because this white wine has such a pure and clean taste, it's unbelievable. This white wine is from the hand of grandmaster Baron Philippe de Rothschild, who is known for one of France's most acclaimed wines. But the family wanted to show off their talents and founded the Baron Philippe de Rothschild group. They purchased several vineyards in the world's best locations, and you can taste that in this Sauvignon Blanc. This white wine is made in the Pays d'Oc wine region and is very successful there. The wines are made with a single grape variety, which is also the origin of this wine series' name. The name Les Cépages literally means "made from a single grape variety."

The harvest of the Sauvignon Blanc

The old vineyards today produce top-quality fruit, full, thick bunches with fine acidity. This is partly because the Sauvignon Blanc grapes grow in a cool climate where they receive plenty of sunshine but also plenty of cool ocean breezes. The sharp drop in nighttime temperatures provides the right amount of cooling for the harvest, allowing the ripening process to proceed slowly and evenly. Once the bunches have absorbed plenty of nutrients from the rich soil structure, rich in lime and gravel, the harvest begins. The harvesting of the Sauvignon Blanc grapes begins early in the morning. This prevents damage and oxidation to the bunches on their way to Baron Philippe de Rothschild. Once the bunches arrive, they are thoroughly inspected, and only the finest are pressed for this white wine.

Full and very powerful this white Baron Philippe de Rothschild

The result is stunning; in the glass, it emanates a bright yellow with a green shimmer. It has a rich aroma of grapefruit, gooseberry, and, of course, gooseberry. The fresh aroma continues on the palate, with plenty of richness of white fruit, along with hints of citrus on the cheeks. Later in the palate, and on the back of the tongue, some green herbs and a smattering of gooseberry bring everything into balance.
